Analyst: US Concerned by Gulf States’ Shifting Foreign Policy

Date:

Recent analytical perspectives suggest growing apprehension in Washington as Gulf Arab states increasingly pursue independent foreign and economic policies. Countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are diversifying their global partnerships, engaging more deeply with nations such as China and Russia, and spearheading regional diplomatic initiatives without relying on traditional United States mediation. This shift toward strategic autonomy marks a significant departure from decades of security-aligned relations, prompting US policymakers to reassess their influence and security framework in the Middle East.

  • Gulf nations, particularly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, are actively diversifying their international alliances beyond traditional Western partners.
  • Increased diplomatic and economic engagement with China and Russia reflects a broader shift toward a multipolar foreign policy.
  • The United States is experiencing strategic concern over its potential loss of influence and the fading reliance of Gulf partners on US security guarantees.
  • Regional de-escalation efforts, including diplomatic engagements with regional rivals, are increasingly being managed directly by Gulf leadership.

  1. A lot of the attacks on Gulf allies were not attacks on them. They were attacks on US bases, which US forces were using to attack Iran. Iran attacked hotels. The US moved its troops into hotels after massive attacks on US bases. So I guess the US was using the people in the hotels as human shields? Even the attack on the British base on Cyprus was not an attack on Cyrpus nor on the Brits but an attack on US hangar containing US spy planes. Presenting most of these attacks as attacks on other countries when the reality is they were mostly attacks on US forces in the region is inaccurate and deceptive.

  2. The UAE is an Israeli and US ally basing US troops and Israeli operatives in the attack on Iran, which makes them reasonable targets for Iranian self-defense strikes.. They have also been a disruptive force in the region, from Sudan, where they support war criminals, to Somalia and Yemen. Bahrain faced a democratic uprising during the Arab Spring. Since the people there are Shia ruled by a Sunni monarch, the US sat by while Bahrain, with Saudi and UAE forces, crushed the protestors there, while criticizing Iran or Syria's Assad for doing similar things.

  3. Too late, the war clearly undermined the defense of Middle East allies. They got no significant protection and Trump lies so much you would be totally irrational to believe anything from his representatives.
